So recently, the classic Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor has died recently. What of her legacy? Having only seen Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Little Women, and a few scenes of her in other movies (not many), I suppose she wasn't bad. Better than some of the more overrated "actors" *coughMarilyn* but was she herself overrated? In talent, maybe a bit. In looks? Definitely.
With makeup, Liz, to me, is "OK". I personally prefer exotic beauty, but as long as it's natural I'm usually OK with it. I can see why people would like Liz, but let's be honest: she had very plain features, and without her bold coloring, she wouldn't get called gorgeous a fraction as much (well, maybe more; America adores the beans out of plainness and generic beauty that Liz was filled to the brim with). White women with naturally black hair is very unusual and pretty but contrary to very popular opinion, your color does not make you exotic or attractive!!! I cannot stress that enough! If she had mousy brown hair and "boring" brown eyes, she would be overlooked more.
Elizabeth reminds me of a bit of Katy Perry. Maybe it's wrong to call her the Katy of her day, since 1) she was not a singer of any kind even if she did sing, 2) she didn't dye her hair, 3) Katy's eyes are not as blue as Elizabeth's, and 4) well, I could rattle off a mile-long list of differences.... but they do have some stuff in common.
Physically, do they not look similar? Katy has very cartoony features, but she also loves the exact same dramatic, classic, colorful makeup Liz always wore- and since Katy dyed her hair they also have the same coloring (though in the photo above, Liz was unusually tan-looking). Katy is a butterface, and they both look their best with tons of makeup on. Which reminds me...
....Underneath the 5 gallons of well-applied makeup lies the true face- which ain't that pretty.
So in conclusion, yes, Elizabeth Taylor was very overrated, but as an overrated "legend", as she and her many fans call her, she will not be forgotten anytime soon. I wouldn't mind people exaggerating her acting so much as long as they would stop trying to make her out to be some sort of goddess, especially the gay community and big chested/fat girls who claim to love her for her "curves". Her body was OK, but I've seen better (Audrey Hepburn and Lauren Bacall, anyone?), an dher personality was less than stellar. I'm sorry, but I can't really admire people who think they have the right to move in on a married man just because he's having problems with his wife, and she herself admitted she "has the emotions of a child" and she was "ruled by her passions". So if you find her attractive, keep in mind what kind of person she was. Don't admire her for it or ignore it simply because you like her looks, movies, or style.
And one last thing: Her eyes were QUITE obviously BRIGHT BLUE, NOT PURPLE!
